SAVANNAH,GA ( May 11, 2012) A Sylvania man has been charged in two cities after selling $16,000 worth of jewelry for $3,000 to a Savannah metals dealer.
Winard Burke was arrested Wednesday in Sylvania after Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police pawn unit detectives photographed 28 pieces of jewelry sold to A&B Gold Rush in Savannah on the 7300 block of Abercorn Street.
Sylvania Police had identified Burke, a former Sardis, GA., police officer, as a possible suspect in a burglary and found his name on a pawn shop database prepared for SCMPD indicating he had sold items.
Once the owner identified the jewelry from the photographs, Burke was arrested in Sylvania for felony theft of lost of mislaid property. Burke has been transported to the Chatham County Detention Center to face felony theft by deception charges here.
