SAVANNAH, GA (February 24, 2022) – A suspect in the Jan. 24 shooting on Chester Street has a new charge of murder following the recent death of the 41-year-old victim.
Around 6 p.m. Jan. 24, officers responded to the 1700 block of Chester Street and located evidence of a shooting. Soon after Lemuel Rouse arrived at Candler Hospital by personal vehicle. Rouse, who was suffering from gunshot wounds, was transported to Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
On Feb. 17, Jeffery Jerome Jackson, 30, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault. Three days later, Rouse died as a result of the injuries sustained in the shooting.
On Feb. 23, detectives upgraded Jackson’s charge of aggravated assault to murder. He remains in custody at the Chatham County jail.
