SAVANNAH, GA (September 1, 2015): The Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department Marine Patrol Unit will conduct a free boater safety course on the third Saturday of each month.
The next class will be offered on Saturday, Sept. 19. The course is required of boaters of certain ages to operate any power vessel or personnel watercraft on Georgia waterways. DNR requires a Social Security number to register. Participants must be at least 12-years-old.
On July 1, 2014, the Mandatory Education Law went into effect, requiring successful completion of the Georgia DNR-approved boater education course for anyone born after Jan. 1, 1998. Successfully completing the course authorizes individuals born after that date to operate powerboats in the State of Georgia,

Classes meet in the Savannah Mall conference room (next to Burlington Coat Factory) from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. with a lunch break.
