SAVANNAH, GA (March 23, 2017) – Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department Violent Crimes detectives, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, the U.S. Marshals, and the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kevin Bentley, 58, for the March 2016 murder of Altonise Jones.
Bentley was found in St. Helena Island, South Carolina and taken into custody. Bentley is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center, awaiting extradition.
At about 7:10 p.m. Mar. 21, 2016, Jones, 16, was reported missing by co-workers who had not seen her since Mar. 19. Metro officers responded to the residence Jones shared with her elderly grandmother in the 200 block of West 39th Street to inquire about the teen’s whereabouts. About an hour later, a relative searched the house, finding the teen deceased inside. Police were immediately notified.
