SAVANNAH – The Savannah Police Department has arrested 38-year-old Byron Reedy for an April 9, 2025 fatal hit-and-run that killed Larry Haywood. Haywood was widely known by locals as “The Flag Man.”
On April 9 at around 8:55 p.m., the SPD Traffic Investigation Unit responded to reports of a hit-and-run collision at Skidaway Rd. and E. 49th St. that involved a bicyclist who had been struck by a motor vehicle. Haywood was found injured on the scene. He was treated and transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Reedy has been charged with homicide by vehicle, hit and run resulting in death, serious injury by motor vehicle, tampering with evidence, operating a vehicle without a tag, no proof of insurance, driving with a suspended license, and failure to yield right of way to a bicyclist in connection with the incident. He was taken into custody by SPD Traffic Investigators on Jan. 21.
