SAVANNAH – The Savannah Police Department has arrested 53-year-old Pierre Byrd on Dec. 3 in connection with a fatal domestic shooting in the 12000 block of Middleground Rd.
SPD responded to the scene at around 10:40 a.m. based on threats made to the victim. While en route officers were informed there was a shooting at the location and given a description of the suspect and his vehicle. As officers arrived, the suspect was identified and fled the scene. After a brief pursuit, Byrd exited his vehicle and was apprehended by officers after a short foot chase.
Simultaneously, first responders discovered the victim at the scene suffering from a serious gunshot wound. She was provided with immediate medical assistance and transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Byrd has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
