SAVANNAH, GA (November 3, 2011): Twenty-one new recruits will join the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department after a pinning ceremony Friday afternoon.
The recruits will join the department after the 3 p.m. ceremony at the Savannah Civic Center, culminating 19 weeks of training. It includes a two-week Recruit Orientation Course with the Metro Police Training Unit, 11 weeks at the State Basic Law Enforcement Certification Course at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center – Garden City, and six weeks of patrol school.
Then they will begin 10 weeks of supervised patrol with a veteran officer before patrolling the jurisdiction on their own.
Savannah Businessman Mark Dana will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony, which is open to the public.
