SAVANNAH, GA. (January 15, 2014): A Pooler motorcycle rider is in critical condition after crashing into two vehicles on Interstate 516 this afternoon.
Robert McGuinness, 27, of the 300 block of Blue Moon Crossing was transported to Memorial University Medical Center after the 3:06 p.m. crash just east of the Tremont Road interchange.
Officers of the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department said the Suzuki motorcycle, a red Pontiac G6 and blue Dodge Challenger all were traveling east on I-516. The motorcycle, traveling at a high rate of speed, attempted to pass between the two cars, sideswiping the Pontiac and rear ending the Dodge.
The driver and passenger in the Challenger also were transported, complaining of injuries.
All traffic was halted on the Interstate for about 45 minutes as first responders addressed injuries. Eastbound traffic was rerouted at Interstate 16 for about three hours.
MAIT continues to investigate.
