SAVANNAH, GA (January 13, 2019) – Savannah Police’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating two Jan. 12 crashes that resulted in serious injuries.
Just after noon officers responded to a vehicle versus motorcycle crash at the intersection of Montgomery Crossroads and Indigo Drive. An initial investigation revealed that a Toyota Avalon, which was driven by Audrey Scott, 65, of Savannah, was traveling westbound on Montgomery Crossroads attempting to turn left onto Indigo Road at the same time that a Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle, which was driven by William Chancey, 58, of Savannah, was traveling eastbound on Montgomery Crossroads. Chancey, fearing he would hit the Avalon in the intersection, laid down his bike, resulting in serious injuries to him. Other details remain under investigation. Chancey was transported to Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
Around 7:30 p.m. officers responded to a vehicle versus bicycle crash at Montgomery and 50th streets. According to an initial investigation, two bicyclists had left a location in the 3500 block of Montgomery Street and were attempting to enter the northbound lane of Montgomery Street at the same time that a Ford F-150, which was driven by Benjamin Wilson, 73, of Savannah, was traveling north in the left lane of Montgomery Street. Wilson saw the first bicyclist and was able to avoid her but he did not see the second bicyclist. The truck struck the bike resulting in serious injuries to Ruixuan Pu, 22, of Savannah. She was transported to Memorial Medical Center with serious injuries.
