SAVANNAH, GA (May 6, 2021) – SPD’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a May 5 serious injury crash involving a driver who fled on foot.
Officers were called to the crash on Mohawk Street around 5:10 p.m. According to a preliminary investigation, a Ford F-150 was traveling west on Mohawk Street and was attempting to complete a left turn onto Mohawk Loop when it was struck by a westbound 2011 Mercedes C250 that was traveling at a high rate of speed. The Mercedes was attempting to pass the F-150 on the left side in a no passing zone, resulting in the Mercedes crashing into the driver-side of the Ford. The impact resulted in the Ford spinning in the road. The Mercedes continued for a short distance before the unknown black male driver fled on foot.
The vehicle’s passenger, Naudia Johnson, 26, of Garden City, was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Ford was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
