SAVANNAH, GA (December 17, 2021) – Savannah Police’s Traffic Investigation Unit (TIU) is investigating an early morning crash on the Bay Street viaduct that resulted in serious injuries to a bicyclist.
According to a preliminary investigation, Bilial Brack, 28, of Port Wentworth, was traveling eastbound across the Bay Street viaduct around 12:45 a.m. when a pedestrian on a skateboard attempted to cross the roadway in front of his vehicle.
Brack swerved to avoid striking the skateboarder, who was identified as Michael John Smith, 38, of Savannah. This resulted in the SUV striking the west shoulder of the roadway and then overturning. Rudolph Viola, 43, of Pooler, was traveling westbound across the viaduct when this occurred and was struck by the overturning vehicle.
