SAVANNAH, GA. (April 21, 2023): SPD Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating an April 20 hit and run crash on Ogeechee Road that left a Savannah woman with critical injuries.
Officers responded to Ogeechee Road at Mersy Way around 10:40 p.m. and discovered Rachele Ruggiano, 55, with injuries. She was transported to a hospital with life threatening injuries.
According to a preliminary investigation, Ruggiano was driving a moped west on Ogeechee Road when she was struck from the side by a Chevrolet Silverado that was exiting a business along Ogeechee Road. The Silverado driver failed to stop after the crash and fled from the scene.
The vehicle is described as a four-door black or dark gray Silverado. The driver was seen on surveillance footage just prior to the crash and was described as a tall, slender, young black male with shoulder length dreads who was wearing white shirt, jeans and sneakers.
