SAVANNAH – The Savannah Police Department arrested James T. Campbell, 35, following an in-depth investigation into the manufacturing and trade of illegal ghost guns.
At 5 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, officers with SPD’s Strategic Investigations Unit and SWAT, alongside partners at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), executed a search warrant of Campbell’s residence in the 300 block of Edgewater Rd.
Officers discovered 18 firearms, multiple firearm accessories, firearm parts, firearm manufacturing tools, and tactical gear. Narcotics and drug paraphernalia were also recovered. Campbell was taken into custody and charged with four counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and three counts of possession of dangerous weapons.
“I’m extremely proud of the hard work of our investigators and federal partners,” Savannah Chief of Police Lenny B. Gunther said. “Their efforts have removed a dangerous individual and untraceable firearms from our community.”
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call CrimeStoppers, 912-234-2020, or submit an anonymous tip through the SPD mobile app.
