SAVANNAH – Savannah Police Detectives are investigating an April 15 shooting in the 1900 block of E. President Street that left Demetrius Lawton, 23, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Police were called to the scene at around 11:10 p.m. and discovered Lawton. He was treated and transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center.
After reviewing evidence and speaking to witnesses, detectives determined the gunfire exchange was the result of a group altercation that began at a local business.
Lawton was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call CrimeStoppers, 912-234-2020.
