SPD conducts warrant-focused operation
SAVANNAH (Oct. 20) – The Savannah Police Department in conjunction with U.S. Marshals’ Violent Criminal Offender Reduction Initiative (VCORI) conducted a concurrent warrant focus operation utilizing the Savannah Police Departments Strategic Investigations Section and Community Response Team from July 1 through Sept. 30. While these units were part of the greater multi-jurisdictional operation it was important to push an additional directed response to violent crime for outstanding warrants on individuals that posed a potential threat to Savannah’s communities.
The units conducted this strategy around both normal enforcement duties and the participation with the greater operation. In addition to the VCORI results the two SPD units arrested an additional 70 wanted suspects and cleared another 131 outstanding warrants.
“As part of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) the Savannah Police Department was able to remove 70 fugitives from our streets and serve over 130 warrants,” said Lenny B. Gunther, Savannah Chief of Police. “Our Strategic Investigations Section and Community Response Team’s phenomenal work has made Savannah safer for its citizens and visitors.”
These focused strategies to locate outstanding fugitives will continue to be initiated throughout the Savannah Police Departments specialized units and patrol division to clear all warrant lists and bring offenders into the judicial system and off the streets.
