Savannah – The Savannah Police Department will begin school zone camera enforcement at Alfred Ely Beach High School on Sept. 3. SPD’s school zone safety program expanded to the A. E. Beach High School location this year. A 30-day warning period starting Aug. 4 has preceded this full enforcement.
Motorists are reminded to please slow down in school zones, observe the flashing beacons, and follow the posted speed limits.
Cameras will operate 45 minutes before school begins, remain active throughout the official school day, and deactivate 30 minutes after dismissal. This aligns with state law, which permits enforcement from one hour before instructional hours begin until one hour after they end.
Cameras are only active on school days—no citations will be issued on holidays, weekends, or emergency closure days (e.g., storm days).
Per Georgia law, citations are issued only when a vehicle exceeds the posted school zone speed limit by 11 mph or more. Initial violations are $100.00 for a first violation and $150.00 for a second or any subsequent violation.
Since citations are classified as civil rather than criminal, no points are placed on driver records, and insurance is not affected.
Citations can be paid at violationpayment.net or by calling 1-855-252-0086.
Affected vehicle owners may contest a citation by requesting a hearing before a judge.
The hearing can be requested at violationpayment.net or by calling 1-855-252-0086.
