SAVANNAH, GA (January 8, 2019) – The Savannah Police Department is accepting applications for its next Citizens Police Academy, which will begin Feb. 21.
The Citizens Police Academy is a 13-week program designed to allow residents to informally interact with members of the department and local criminal justice system. Class participants will have the opportunity to meet officers from each of the department’s specialized units and hear from guest speakers. Highlights of the program include a tour of the 911 Communications Center and the Chatham County Jail, firearms and tactical training, a traffic stop role playing exercise, and a ride-along with an officer.
The class meets every Thursday from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the Savannah Police Department Professional Development Center, 3401 Edwin St. Registration is $10. (Only checks or money orders are accepted forms of payment.)

Applications must be signed and notarized. Completed applications can be dropped off at any precinct or at SPD Headquarters, 201 Habersham St.
Graduates will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible to apply for the Volunteers in Policing Program.
The application deadline is Feb. 1. Seating is limited.
