Savannah – The Savannah Police Department reminds the City of Savannah of the upcoming reactivation of school zone speed cameras for the 2025-2026 school year. These details are all available on the SPD website at savannahpd.org/school-zones.
See below for dates of activation:
- August 4, 2025: Savannah‑Chatham County Public School Zones
- August 5, 2025: Savannah Classical Academy
- August 11, 2025: Susie King Taylor Community School
Cameras will operate 45 minutes before school begins, remain active throughout the official school day, and deactivate 30 minutes after dismissal. This aligns with state law, which permits enforcement from one hour before instructional hours begin until one hour after they end.
Cameras are only active on school days—no citations will be issued on holidays, weekends, or emergency closure days (e.g., storm days).
Please be advised of the following new and retired camera locations:
- The camera at the former Shuman Middle School on Goebel Avenue will be removed and will no longer enforce a school zone.
- A camera has been added at A.E. Beach School Zone, set to go live on August 4, 2025. A 30-day warning period will precede full enforcement, with citations beginning September 3, 2025.
Per Georgia law, citations are issued only when a vehicle exceeds the posted school zone speed limit by 11 mph or more.
Initial violations are $100.00 for a first violation and $150.00 for a second or any subsequent violation.
Since citations are classified as civil rather than criminal, no points are placed on driver records, and insurance is not affected.
Citations can be paid at violationpayment.net or by calling 1-855-252-0086.
Affected vehicle owners may contest a citation by requesting a hearing before a judge.
The hearing can be requested at violationpayment.net or by calling 1-855-252-0086.
