SAVANNAH, GA (August 28, 2012) The number of suspects arrested in a special operation sweep in the Cuyler-Brownsville neighborhood rose to eight today with the arrest of Maurice Ruff.
Ruff, 24, was arrested on Eppinger Street by U.S. Marshals and members of the Savannah Area Regional Gun Enforcement (SARGE) Task Force on charges of the sale of cocaine and parole violation, both felonies. Still at large and being sought are Travis Young, Edward Singleton, Victor Holloway and Willie Lee Smith, all from the area bounded by West 37th Street, MLK Boulevard and West 38th Street.
The sweep began last Thursday, capping an eight-month investigation by SARGE, which is composed of Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police officers and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) with assistance from SCMPD’s Central Precinct Crime Suppression Unit. The effort of local and federal authorities began in January to disrupt illicit drug and firearm sales and involved suspects described as the area’s most violent.
The search for those suspects still at large continues and more arrests are expected in the near future.
All suspects at large are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with knowledge of their locations is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward. Or, calls can be made to 1 (800) ATF-GUNS (283-4867.)
