SAVANNAH,GA ( May 7, 2012) A 19-year-old Savannah man has been arrested and charged in a shooting that left a 4-year-old and his aunt with minor injuries last Thursday.
Rakeen Marcel Engram was arrested by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police, U.S. Marshals and SCMPD K-9 units at a hotel on West Montgomery Street.
He was charged with four counts of aggravated assault in the 3:45 p.m. incident in which shots were fired at a car transporting a 20-year-old woman and the child near Giles and Franklin streets in Tatumville. West Chatham Precinct officers were searching for the shooting scene when a 911 call directed Central Precinct officers to the 400 block of West 61st Street.
There they found the child who had a wound to his thumb, his aunt who had been grazed by a bullet, and the car with bullet holes in it. The child and the woman were transported to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Tatumville residents reported seeing the burgundy automobile and a silver-blue sedan and hearing several shots fired.
SCMPD Violent Crimes detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting and trying to identify others who may have been involved.
