SAVANNAH, GA (August 3, 2011): An 19-year-old Savannah man is being charged with aggravated assault and drug charges after a gun he was holding discharged and struck a 2-year-old boy in East Savannah Thursday night.
JABRE GOODINE, 19, of the 1100 block of Graydon Street was looking at the gun beside the house when it discharged and struck the child who was playing nearby. Two weapons, including the gun that wounded the boy were recovered. Police also discovered illegal drugs after the suspect was transported to Headquarters for questioning.
Cameron Campbell was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his groin and upper leg area. He was rushed into emergency surgery but the injury was not considered life-threatening.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police had responded to the 8 p.m. shooting with patrol, canine and forensics officers, violent crimes detectgives and a helicopter after the Cameron’s brother Jawan told them his brother had been shot by two males who ran from the shooting. Goodine, who lives in the same block, returned to the scene soon after the shooting. A Chatham County Sheriff’s Office gun dog also participated in the search.
