SAVANNAH, GA. (February 8, 2014): West Bay Street between East Lathrop Avenue and Fahm Street is reopening to traffic but motorists are cautioned about driving in the areas around a warehouse fire still being battled.
Heavy smoke still can affect portions of Interstate 16, Interstate 516 and even Interstate 95 as well as the Talmadge Bridge.
Firefighters from Savannah Fire and Emergency Services with help from the Garden City Fire Department have been working to contain the fire at Ocean Terminal warehouse No. 3 on West River Street since about 11:30 a.m. and are expected to continue through the night until as late as 8 a.m. Sunday.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police said that while the majority of the fire is out, heavy smoke continues to drift toward the west. Drivers are asked to slow down and use extra caution.
