SAVANNAH, GA (January 9, 2015): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department is accepting applications for the Winter 2015 Citizens Police Academy.
The winter academy will begin Feb. 12. The program runs 14-weeks and allows residents to interact with members of the police department and the criminal justice system. Participants also will meet officers from each unit to learn their unique job functions. When possible, the academy includes tours of the Chatham County Jail, 9-1-1 Communication Center and ride-alongs with patrol officers.
Applications are available at all SCMPD precincts or by calling Gianna Nelson at (912) 651-2246. Applications also are available online at https://savannahpd.org. Registration is $10. Applicants must be at least 18-years-old and able to pass a criminal background check.
The first class will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the SCMPD Squad Room, at 201 Habersham St.
Applications will be accepted until Feb. 6. There are 35 seats available.
