SAVANNAH, GA. (November 20, 2013): Police are soliciting information on the subjects who damaged 17 headstones at the Laurel Grove North Cemetery, causing thousands of dollars of damage.
Cemetery workers discovered the damage last Wednesday morning when they found the headstones pushed off their foundations, many of them broken, at the cemetery at 802 West Anderson Street. Some of the headstones were placed there in the 19th century and are irreplaceable.
Central Precinct detectives of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department are investigating. City of Savannah staffers are participating because most owners of record are deceased and their heirs are not identified.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
