TIU Investigates Single-Vehicle Crash on Chatham Parkway

SAVANNAH, GA (October 24, 2018) – Savannah Police’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred on Chatham Parkway this morning.

About 4:45 a.m. officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a Ford F-150 that was traveling on Ogeechee Road near Chatham Parkway without its lights on. The vehicle fled from the scene, resulting in the driver losing control and crashing the vehicle near Chatham Parkway and Carl Griffin Drive. The vehicle struck two trees, flipped on its side, came to a rest against the guardrail and caught on fire.

A vehicle occupant, who was identified as Matthew Smith, 28, of Savannah, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. It has not been determined if Smith was the operator of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
