SAVANNAH, GA (June 5, 2021) – Savannah Police’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a pedestrian-involved crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard late June 4 that resulted in the death of a 66-year-old man.
Around 10:45 p.m. David Roberts, of Savannah, was on a bicycle attempting to cross MLK Boulevard near 34th Street when he was struck by a Ford Ranger that was traveling southbound and driven by Allen Smith, 75, of Pembroke. Roberts was thrown from the bicycle and into the middle of the southbound lanes.
Roberts was then struck by a Chevrolet Impala driven by Laniyah Henry, 19, of Savannah. This resulted in Roberts being dragged under the vehicle before it came to a stop several blocks later.
Roberts was transported to a hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
