SAVANNAH, GA (January 29, 2018) – Metro’s SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) assisted in today’s arrest of a man wanted in Florida for the theft of multiple firearms.
About 7:30 a.m. the Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERTF) of the U.S. Marshals Service requested SWAT’s assistance in an arrest warrant service that turned into a barricaded subject incident at a residence in the 600 block of W. 35th Street. Marshals and SWAT were at the residence serving the warrants for Anthony Chris Johnson, 26, who was wanted by the Brevard County (FL) Sheriff’s Office for burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, when the incident occurred. Johnson is the suspect in a Brevard County pawn shop burglary where more than 30 firearms were stolen.
Marshals arrived at the residence and removed two females from the home before Johnson barricaded himself inside.
SWAT and HNT used multiple tactics to attempt to get Johnson to exit the residence.
Johnson was taken into custody without incident around 11:30 a.m. He was turned over to SERTF.
