UPDATE (October 22, 2020): Thanks to crime tips from the public, detectives have identified and charged a suspect in a sexual assault that occurred on Broughton Street on Sept. 5. Judon Maurice Adams, 47, was already in custody at the Chatham County Detention Center on unrelated charges of shoplifting, terroristic threats and simple assault due to a September incident at the Savannah Mall. Adams is now facing additional charges of aggravated sexual battery and kidnapping in connection to the incident on Broughton Street on Sept. 5.

SAVANNAH, GA (September 5, 2020) – SPD’s Special Victims Unit is seeking to identity a man who sexually assaulted a woman in the downtown area early this morning.

According to a preliminary investigation, the victim was walking alone on Broughton Street around 4 a.m. when the unknown man grabbed her, forced her to the ground and assaulted her. An employee at a nearby business heard her screaming for help and was able to help her escape from the suspect. He was last seen fleeing on foot toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard then west on Bryan Street.

The suspect was described as a black male who is around 6-feet tall, 175-195 lbs., stocky build and is balding. He was dressed in light colored cargo shorts, a dark colored shirt, and dark shoes. He is estimated to be in his 30s or 40s.
