SAVANNAH, GA (January 6, 2011): A Savannah man sought since Nov. 5 after a home invasion in which three victims were robbed and one was pistol whipped, was arrested Thursday night by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police detectives and Port Wentworth police officers in a felony traffic stop.
Jason Hamrick Jr., 22, was arrested after police stopped a moving truck being driven back from Texas on Ga. 30 about 9 p.m. in Port Wentworth. He has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and probation violation.
SCMPD detectives already had arrested and charged Christopher Mitchell, 19, with armed robbery and aggravated assault for the attack on two men and a woman in their residence on the 200 Block of Quacco Road, Nov. 5. Police also are seeking the public’s help in locating Gary Michael Johnson, 21 of the 1200 Block of Stiles Avenue, the third suspect .
Johnson also is being sought after escaping from the receiving area of the Chatham County Detention Center on Thanksgiving Eve. He had been arrested on charges of theft by receiving (firearm), carrying a concealed weapon and false information and was being removed from a police van in a fenced area when he slipped a hand out of restraints, scaled a fence and rolled over razor wire to escape.
The three victims of the Nov. 3 incident were in the residence when Mitchell and Hamrick came over to play video games. Once in the residence, one of the suspects opened the back door to allow Johnson to enter with guns he provided the other two suspects.
The victims were robbed and one of the men was beaten severely before the three suspects left.
