SAVANNAH, GA (August 3, 2015) –This week six members of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department are honing their leadership skills and learning how to teach leadership course to the rest the agency.
Lt. Robert Gavin, Lt. David Gay, Lt. Joy Gellatly, Sgt. David Barefield,, Sgt. Alex Tobar and Training Director Gary Taylor were selected for the Savannah Leadership in Police Organization’s (LPO) Faculty Development Workshop. They were among the 35 SCMPD officers/employees who graduated from the LPO program in April. The program was developed, and is being taught by, the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Once these six individuals complete the Faculty Development Workshop, they will be able to begin teaching the LPO class to other members of the SCMPD. Presently, SCMPD plans to have a Master Instructor from the IACP teach 50% of future LPO courses; the other 50% will be taught by SCMPD personnel, with the oversight of IACP instructors.
