SAVANNAH, GA (September 17, 2014) -SCMPD is proud to announce that WTOC awarded K-9 Flash with the WTOC Hometown Hero Award. K-9 Flash, a Belgian Malinois, helped to take drugs, weapons and criminals off the streets of Savannah, and Chatham County, K-9’s are an essential part of the SCMPD and are more valuable than many realize. APO Bryan Harrell told WTOC that Flash “is such an asset to the department, not only for the detection of narcotics and contraband, but just for officer safety and the safety of the citizens, you can’t put a price tag on that type of an officer.” Many patrol officers feel that their jobs would be much harder without K-9’s like Flash and the rest of the SCMPD K-9 Unit.
Prior to the WTOC story, Flash and his handler Officer Tucker had been focusing on the Carver Heights area, where SCMPD have recently increased patrols.
