SAVANNAH, GA (April 19, 2016): The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a sexual assault that occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m., April 19, near West 37th Street and Barnard Street.

A 20-year-old female was sexually assaulted by an unknown male. The victim escaped and fled to the area of Montgomery Street and Pearl Street where she was assisted by bystanders until Metro officers arrived. Following the assault, the victim was transported to a nearby hospital.

The suspect is described as a clean-shaven black male with a dark complexion, 25-35 years old, and approximately 6-feet tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

The incident remains under investigation.
