SAVANNAH, GA (October 29, 2010): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Major Accident Investigations Team is investigating an overnight traffic fatality.
This morning at 2:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to a one car accident on Hwy 80, just east of the Bull River Bridge. The SCMPD Major Accident Investigations Team responded and determined that the driver of the vehicle, Mr. Chase Jered Schoolfield, 22, was traveling east on Highway 80 operating a 1997 Mercedes E320.
Mr. Schoolfield lost control of the vehicle just past the Bull River Bridge. The vehicle went off of the north side of Highway 80 and struck two palm trees. Mr. Schoolfield was pronounced dead at the scene.
Southside Fire also responded and used the Jaws of Life to remove Mr. Schoolfield.
This is an ongoing investigation.
