SAVANNAH, GA (April 5, 2011) Savannah – Chatham Metro Police are asking for the public’s assistance with Operation Welcome Home.
The 4th Brigade troops will be coming home in a couple of months. As was the case when the main body of the 3rd Infantry Division came home in the fall, the single soldiers will return to completely bare barracks rooms. There will be clean sheets on the bed – and that’s it.
The 3rd ID used to supply “Welcome Home” bags for each of these soldiers containing basic toiletries. But due to Army-wide budget cuts, this program was eliminated. The soldiers arrive exhausted, after at least 22 hours in the air, without the basic necessities. We can help with Operation welcome Home.
They are accepting donations for our single soldiers’ Welcome Home Baskets. They like to prepare the barracks for their return home.
The Items needed are:
- towels
- bar soap
- toothbrushes
- washcloths
- toothpaste
- shower curtains
- shower curtain rings
- bottled water
- sports drinks
- razors
- shampoo
They are also accepting gift cards so they can purchase items. Any donation is greatly appreciated and goes a long way in making these soldiers feel welcome when they get home. A donation box is set up at Precinct four, located at the Oglethorpe Mall.
