SAVANNAH, GA (June 1, 2016): SCMPD Capt. Robert Gavin has graduated from the prestigious University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute Administrative Officers Course.

Capt. Gavin was one of 45 law enforcement officers from 37 agencies and 16 states to graduate from the 135th Administrative Officers Course on May 12, 2016 in Louisville, KY.

The Southern Police Institute (SPI) was founded at the University of Louisville in 1951.

The Administrative Officers Course (AOC) is a police executive leadership graduate program attracting participants from law enforcement agencies throughout the United States, the Pacific Rim nations, and Europe.

The AOC is a 12 week (480 hour) in-residence, accredited college level educational program. The course curriculum is designed to develop informed, effective, ethically and technically competent law enforcement administrators. This comprehensive development program provides instruction in law enforcement issues, diagnostic problem solving and administrative law.

Capt. Gavin is a 21-year veteran of the SCMPD.  He was promoted to captain in 2015.  He is currently the commander of the Office of Professional Standards and oversee the SCMPD’s Internal Affairs, Recruiting and Training units. Gavin is the 15th SCMPD officer to complete the AOC since 1957.
