SAVANNAH, GA (January 29, 2019) – Collaboration between Savannah Police’s Northwest Precinct and Violent Crimes Task Force officers, along with Georgia State Patrol, led to the quick arrest of an armed robbery suspect yesterday.
At around 5:30 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on report of an armed robbery. A preliminary investigation revealed that the later identified suspect, Michael Taylor, 25, knocked on the back door of an office at that location. Once the victim opened the door, the suspect pulled the door open further and began demanding the victim’s property, in which the victim complied.
Taylor then fled the scene with the victim’s keys and vehicle. Shortly after Savannah Police and GSP spotted the vehicle, Taylor crashed on Anderson Street and Bee Road. He attempted to flee on foot, but officers quickly took him into custody.
The armed robbery victim did not sustain any injuries and there were no reported injuries due to the crash.
Taylor was charged with armed robbery, carjacking, crimes against the elderly, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, tampering with evidence, obstruction and numerous traffic violations. He was booked into the Chatham County Detention Center without incident.
