UPDATE (March 25, 2019): James “Ju Ju” Johnson Jr., 19, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of involuntary manslaughter, false statements and reckless conduct in the death of Shyree Smalls. Johnson was booked into the Chatham County Detention Center on March 24. He has since been released on bond.
SAVANNAH, GA (October 28, 2018) – Savannah Police Violent Crimes detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old male on October 27.
At around 10:30 a.m., a call was received in reference to an injured person, later identified as Shyree Smalls, on the 1100 block of E. 37th Street. He was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. Further evaluation revealed that he was suffering from gunshot wounds. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives are working the case to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident. Detectives do not believe this to be a random shooting.
