SAVANNAH, GA (August 3, 2015) – SCMPD Central Precinct officers gathered into Feiler Park on Saturday for the 3rd annual “Back to School” Roll Call in the Street event. This is the 4th year of Roll Call in the Street under the command of Central Precinct Captain DeVonn Adams.
Once again the gracious workers from Chatham Parkway Toyota have teamed up with SCMPD’s Central Precinct Crime Prevention Officers to give back to the kids. The past years have included the Cuyler-Brownville and Live Oak neighborhoods.
Capt. Adams and Central Precinct Crime Prevention Officers, APO Barry Lewis and Cpl. Dana Purvis headed up the initiative with help also coming from fellow officers and others in the community including Bright Life Chiropractic. Over 60 bags and multiple school items were given out to those who attended.
“Our Central Precinct officers as well some business have always been interested in what we are doing for the community and that kind of interest is what helps us make this happen,” said Lewis.
Food, fun and giveaways in a safe environment with a little glimpse into what officers do during their roll call; usually held in the Central Precinct squad room, is exactly what folks got today.
SCMPD SWAT, SCMPD K-9, Savannah Fire, SCMPD Citizens Police Academy as well as SCMPD Volunteers, McGruff the Crime Dog, City of Savannah Property Maintenance and Operation Clean Sweep were on hand to assist and add to the event.
