SAVANNAH, GA (January 13, 2016): Monday, Jan.18, downtown traffic will be rerouted for several hours as Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police close streets and intersections for the Martin Luther King Day Parade, scheduled for 10 a.m.
Road closures throughout the staging area will begin promptly at 6:30 a.m. The staging area runs from East Broad Street to Price Street and Liberty Street to Gwinnett Street.
The route has changed slightly from past years to accommodate the construction on General McIntosh Boulevard and President Street. The parade route begins at East Broad and Liberty streets. It then moves north on East Broad to Oglethorpe Street, west on Oglethorpe to Price Street, north on Price to Broughton Street, west on Broughton to MLK Boulevard, and south on MLK to Anderson Street to the disband area. The disband area runs from Gwinnett, May and Anderson streets. Roads along the staging area and parade route will close at 9:45 a.m. and remain closed throughout the parade’s duration.
Posting of “No Parking Zone” notices along the parade route will be completed by Sunday, Jan. 17 in the evening. Vehicles remaining in the no parking zone after 7 a.m. Monday will be towed at the owners expense.
Delivery vehicles with Bay Street destinations should take Interstate 516 at DeRenne Avenue to northbound Truman Parkway at Presidents Street to access Bay Street. Access to President Street from Bay Street via East Broad Street will remain unimpeded for the duration of the event.
Traffic will be impacted until approximately 3 p.m. on the day of the event.
