Damion Turner Reese was 28 and stationed at Hunter Army Airfield when he was shot and killed on Sept. 18, 2009.
He was an active duty soldier and scheduled to deploy overseas. Reese was new to the area and wasn’t known to associate with many residents in Savannah, which leads investigators to believe the shooter was a total stranger to Reese.
Reese’s body was found around 11:30 p.m. in the driver’s seat of his Toyota Camry at the intersection of 40th and Montgomery streets. Savannah-Chatham police detectives received information that the actual shooting took place in the area of 40th and Burroughs streets, but Reese and his car were discovered after he crashed into another car.
According to the investigation, Reese was seen leaving the airfield about 20 minutes before the murder occurred.
