Just after 2:00 p.m., Patricia Pacheco was in the process of checking her mail at Edgewater Trace Apartments, located in the 10000 Block of Abercorn Street when she saw a man jump into her vehicle and speed away. Pacheco’s young granddaughter was in a car seat in the back of the vehicle.
At this same time two Army Soldiers from Hunter Army Air Field, were driving into the complex and witnessed a vehicle speeding by. The soldiers were not far behind. Specialist Scott grabbed the baby and took her to safety. Specialist Layton continued to follow the suspect from a distance and disseminate information to police as it was happening. The suspect realized he was being followed and fled.
