SAVANNAH, GA (March 9, 2011): Two would-be burglars were stopped in their tracks when an off-duty Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police officer noticed them breaking into a house Wednesday.
John Montrell Small, 18, and a 16-year-old juvenile were charged with attempted burglary and obstruction by fleeing after Neighborhood Task Force and Islands Precinct officers surrounded the house in the 7100 block of Skidaway Road. Small lives next door to the house.
The two suspects fled across fences into the next block but were caught by pursuing officers about 10 a.m.
Officers found the two had been using a tire iron to break into the residence and a sock to hide fingerprints. A sock matching the one at the scene was found in one suspect’s pocket.
