SAVANNAH, GA (September 16, 2020) – SPD’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating an early morning crash that resulted in serious injuries for a 40-year-old pedestrian.
According to a preliminary investigation, SPD officers were in the 200 block of Montgomery Crossroads around 5:30 a.m. attempting to talk Tia Slupski, of Pooler, out of the eastbound lanes of the roadway. Officers saw Slupski, who was in distress, in the road while patrolling. Officers stopped their vehicles and were attempting to de-escalate the situation and get the woman to safety. During that interaction, a Dodge Dakota, driven by a 51-year-old Savannah man, approached the scene. The driver slowed at the sight of the police vehicles and was attempting to change lanes when his vehicle struck Slupski. She was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
