SAVANNAH, GA (March 18, 2012): An over-capacity crowd celebrating St. Patrick’s Day has overwhelmed Downtown Savannah and police are advising those who intend to join in early Sunday morning to change their plans.
Partiers have overwhelmed Broughton, Bay and River streets from MLK Jr. Boulevard to East Broad Street and drivers find themselves traped in gridlock as they look for parking spaces.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Polcie have closed Bay and River streets to vehicle traffic to allow pedestrians to navigate safely, but the streets and businesses are saturated and traffic on most of them is at a standstill.
