SAVANNAH GA ( February 3, 2010) One man is in custody this morning after he fled from an early morning traffic stop initiated by the Georgia State Patrol. Emerson PERRY, 54, was stopped for speeding while traveling northbound on interstate I-95. PERRY initially stopped for the trooper but then jumped back into his car and sped away.
The pursuit lead the trooper into Savannah at speeds in excess of 90 MPH, ending near mile marker 9 on Hwy 204 where PERRY fled on foot. SCMPD officers then joined in on the foot pursuit, chasing the man into the wooded area. A perimeter was established and air support was called in. SCMPD along with Richmond Hill K-9 officer’s started a track, PERRY was soon apprehended and taken into custody.
Additional Richmond Hill officers responded, as well as the ATF and SCMPD gun detectives. An initial search of the vehicle revealed several illegal weapons inside. PERRY is a convicted felon. Richmond Hill PD is assuming the case and should be contacted for further information. PERRY will be transported to the Bryan County Jail.
