SAVANNAH, GA (January 16, 2013): A captain and 25 graduates of patrol school will get their Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department badges in a ceremony Friday afternoon.
Capt. John Best, commander of the Islands Precinct since Jan. 7, officially will be pinned in the ceremony and the patrol school graduates officially will become members of the department at the 3 p.m. ceremony.
Best has been a member of the department for 28 years and is being promoted from Lieutenant Watch Commander in the Central Precinct.
The recruits will complete 19 weeks of training, including 11 weeks at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center-Garden City, and then will be assigned to a personal training officer for 10 weeks before they can patrol on their own.
District Attorney Meg Heap will be the keynote speaker at the event in the Savannah Civic Center Ballroom.
