SAVANNAH, GA (Friday, August 4, 2017) – Thirteen Savannah-Chatham Metro officers successfully completed the National Child Passenger Safety Certification class taught by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety this week.
The three-day class culminated today when the newly certified officers and their instructors visited the Economic Opportunity Authority on W. Anderson Street and offered free child safety seat inspections. Over the course of an hour, the officers conducted 45 inspections and gave four new child safety seats to children who were not restrained.
“It’s great that the police department now has officers who can instruct people on proper child seat installation,” said Lt. Anthony Gallo, of the Traffic Unit. “We hope this will reduce the number of children injured in wrecks.”
It has been several years since Metro had officers certified in child passenger safety. Certifications last two years before requiring renewal.
Parents who would like a child safety seat inspection can contact the Crime Prevention Officer in their precinct.
