SAVANNAH, GA (October 31, 2016): The Violent Crimes Division of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department is seeking information in two robberies turned shootings at local convenience stores in September and October.
Detectives believe the same suspect may be responsible for an incident that occurred at a gas station in the 2000 block of Skidaway Road in September and a separate incident in October at a convenience store in the 2000 block of Delesseps Avenue.
On Sep. 26, Metro responded to the gas station around 4 a.m., finding Dileep Madappallil, 37, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries. Investigators believe this incident stemmed from an attempted armed robbery.
In the Oct. 28 incident, Metro responded to the scene at about 2:20 a.m., finding store employee Babubhai Chaudhari, 45, with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was transported by ambulance to MUMC for care.
Reportedly, Chaudhari was inside of the store when a male suspect forced his way inside. Chaudhari complied with the suspect’s demands for money from the cash register. Before fleeing, the suspect fired a gun, striking the victim.
The suspect covered his face in both incidents, but is described as a black male of an average height and build. During the second incident he wore blue two tone jacket, tan pants and brown boots.
Any information regarding these incidents or the suspect’s identity should be forwarded to the SCMPD tip line at (912) 525-3124.
