SAVANNAH, GA (August 11, 2015): Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police will be firing shots to test the ShotSpotter system in locations within the Downtown Precinct today from approximately 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Shots may be heard by those at indoor and outdoor locations. ShotSpotter technicians will be on hand. Metro officers, both in uniform and in plain clothes, also will be present to reassure the public of its safety.
The public will be advised at the conclusion of the test firings via news releases, SCMPD.org, Facebook (Facebook.com/scmpd) and Twitter (@scmpd).
ShotSpotter has been installed in areas around Savannah in a joint effort by the city and SCAD. It uses a series of sound sensors to immediately detect gunshots and their site of origin.
