SAVANNAH, GA (October 22, 2014): A Bloomingdale man was in critical condition today after the car he was driving flipped over a guardrail on Interstate 516 and into a ravine.
Dean Jones, 40, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center after the 10:35 a.m. crash on the Lyons Parkway at the Veterans Parkway exit ramp.
The 2014 Ford Edge SUV he was driving on the inside, eastbound lane of I-516 left the lane and struck the left front fender of a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 78-year-old Port Wentworth woman. The Ford then struck the nose of the guardrail and flipped over it and between the embankments of the interstate and the exit ramp. The Chevrolet struck the guardrail and came to rest broadside across the eastbound lanes.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police rerouted eastbound traffic at Ogeechee road for more than 90 minutes to work the crash.
Metro’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) continues to investigate.
